The DEFC reports that the section includes: Terror (2015, Lyric R. Cabral, David Felix Sutcliffe), Killing Time (2015, Lydie Wisshaupt-Claudel), Of Men & War (2014, Laurent Becue-Renard), The Seventh Fire (2015, Jack Riccobono), Cartel Land (2015, Matthew Heineman), The Case of the Three-Sided Dream (2014, Adam Kahan), and A Courtship (2015, Amy Cohen).
The two documentaries Killing Time and Of Men & War are about the American soldiers returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan suffering PTSD bue to combat experiences.
Killing Time was also included in the competition section of the prestigious Cinema du Reel Film Festival in France. Of Men & War was screened in Cannes 2015.
The documentaries The Seventh Fire and Cartel Land deal with inevitable addiction among American Indians, the indifference of the US government towards them and the huge drug cartels across the US-Mexico border.
Cartel Land was also in the official selection of this year’s Sundance Film Festival and won Best Director and Best Photography awards there. It has also featured in Melbourne and Tribeca festivals.
The 9th edition of Cinema Verite will be held Dec 13-19 in Tehran, Iran.
